'10-foot-tall people' discovered by archaeologists in Nevada cave

Legends, myths and even the Bible say that giants once inhabited our planet. Fortunately, there is evidence to support this notion.

These skeletons reached heights of up to 10 feet, some of them.

.

This has fuelled the enduring notion, handed down through the centuries, that a long-lost civilisation of humans once thrived in South West America.

According to the Paiute tribe, which settled in the Nevada region thousands of years ago, they believed that a group of strange, cannibalistic beings known as the Si-Te-Cah had migrated to the Americas from a far-off island.

According to local lore, the Si-Te-Cah supposedly crossed the sea on rafts constructed from reeds and gained notoriety as being exceptionally tall, physically robust, and notably harsh in their nature compared to other men.

In 1911, miners working at a cave near Lovelock, Nevada, stumbled upon a series of unusual objects while excavating bat droppings, a substance rich in fertiliser, from the site.

This led to two official excavations being undertaken in 1912 and again in 1924, resulting in the recovery of thousands of artefacts.

Among the astonishing discoveries were the mummies, known as the Lovelock Giants, which measured between 2.4 and 3.1 metres tall,

They also discovered 38cm-long sandalled footwear, which looked as though they had been worn, and a large rock with what seems to be the imprint of a giant hand.

It was alleged that two gigantic skeletons had been unearthed in a dry lake bed situated near Lovelock.

These relics measured 8.5 and 10 feet in height respectively, and were preserved through mummification in a technique akin to that used by our ancient Egyptian forebears.

And while all of this may seem far-fetched, the tale of these mysterious folk appears frequently across the Americas.

For instance, in the sixteenth century, a Spanish conquistador named Pedro Cieza de León wrote down an ancient Peruvian story regarding the origins of the giants.

In his account, de León described the towering figures as arriving by sea on platforms made of reeds, somewhat like large vessels. He noted that some of the men were so tall that their lower limbs were as long as the height of an average-sized man.

There have been discoveries in the Andes mountains, in the region where Peru and Bolivia meet, of human skeletons featuring unusually long skulls.

The urn is estimated to be approximately 3000 years old and significantly larger than an average human's.

Interestingly, some of them were discovered to have auburn hair.

Some scientists attribute the reddish colour to the natural surroundings in which the deceased individuals were laid to rest.

But to others, it serves as compelling evidence of the existence of the Si-Te-Cah and their companions.

And if you're still wondering how such a powerful and formidable people came to vanish, leaving only a legacy of doubt and speculation, the Paiute people's explanation offers an intriguing clue.

According to their folklore, the Si-Te-Cah went to war against them and all the other nearby tribes, spreading terror and devastation.

After a long period of fighting, the tribes joined forces in opposition to this extremely powerful enemy.

In the end, the last of the giants were driven away and took refuge inside Lovelock cave.

Securing their opportunity, the tribes began a fire at the cave entrance, annihilating the last remaining Si-Te-Cah by asphyxiation and incineration.

reports.

Even if these 10-foot giants, often the subject of mythical tales, are purely the product of our collective imagination, it can be most enjoyable when all the aspects of this legend tie in nicely.
