Passenger plane with entirely new 'blended wing' shape aims to hit the skies by 2030
LAS VEGAS - A revolutionary new passenger jet is set to take to the skies within the next five years, boasting a drastically unique design that deviates from the conventional and existing aeroplanes today.
The plane utilizes a "blended wing" design, which, according to JetZero and Siemens representatives, was revealed on Wednesday 8 January at a press conference held at the CES 2025 event in Las Vegas, and may achieve a 50% enhancement in fuel efficiency.
It is mostly linked to military aircraft.

A recreation of an aeroplane design from the early 20th century is currently in the process of being built.

JetZero representatives claim their unique blended-wing design enables a shorter, broader fuselage that merges seamlessly with the wing in order to generate lift, resulting in a reduced surface area and subsequently a lighter plane with lower air resistance.
The new aeroplane will be entirely compatible with eco-friendly aviation fuel, and will also be able to use hydrogen as fuel, with the ultimate goal of making flights zero-emission. It will have a capacity for 250 passengers and a flight range of 5,750 miles (approximately 9,250 kilometres).
At the Consumer Electronics Show, officials from JetZero announced a joint manufacturing project with Siemens to produce the plane by 2030 - a highly ambitious goal. They acknowledged that this deadline is extremely tight, but are hopeful that the development can be successfully completed thanks to the use of digital twinning technology, which allows for the creation of a precise digital replica of the proposed design. This replica incorporates artificial intelligence (AI), enabling it to identify ways to enhance the design or to suggest more efficient alternatives to certain components.

Although JetZero plans to commence testing of its aircraft by 2027, manufacturing facilities to build it are still in the process of being developed. In November, the company made a public announcement confirming it had reached agreements with its suppliers to design components for the flight control system for an upcoming prototype aircraft.
