Wallace And Gromit creator ‘ecstatic’ over Vengeance Most Fowl Oscar nomination
Nick Park, the creator of Wallace and Gromit, has stated that his team are "delighted" their popular BBC Christmas programme, Vengeance Most Fowl, has been nominated for an Oscar Award.
The film, which sees the comeback of the wicked penguin Feathers McGraw, is a nominee for best animated feature film.
It has been announced that Spain's Emilia Pérez will have the most Oscars nominations this year, with 13 nods, whilst the musical Wicked and the immigrant story The Brutalist also received 10 nominations each.
On BBC Breakfast on Friday, Park reacted to the nomination by saying he was "ecstatic" and "you can't get used to it", despite the fact that Aardman animations have previously won four Oscars.
The first success was achieved for the 1989 claymation comedy ' Creature Comforts', while the subsequent film featuring Wallace and Gromit, ' The Wrong Trousers', won the best animated short film Oscar in 1994. Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave then achieved the same award in 1996, and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit won best animated feature in 2005.
The latest Oscar nomination for Wallace & Gromit: A Grand Day Out's sequel, Vengeance Most Fowl, comes after three BAFTA nominations, these being Best British animated film, as well as film and Outstanding British film.
Park said: "You can't expect it and we didn't make the film for this, but it is still a fantastic honour and a thrill just to be included."
It's every artist's pleasure to see their work recognised in some form or another. It's a testament to our talented animators, our accomplished director of photography, and the entire team who've put their hearts into crafting the music and the film. Many dedicated individuals have put in countless hours to make this project possible.
The filmmaker described working at Aardman as a "privilege" due to being constantly surrounded by a "treasure trove of imagination" each day.
He has previously spoken about famous Hollywood stars like Tom Hanks and Sir Elton John showering him with praise at high-profile award ceremonies. At the Golden Globes not long ago, actress Sharon Stone commended the Wallace and Gromit puppets as "gorgeous characters."
Merlin Crossingham, the creative director at Aardman animation studio, commented: "It's truly remarkable. I'm well aware that Nick is an old pro at this, but as for me, this is my first time and I found myself in the studio alongside some of the brilliant animators we worked with on the film, and it was a really wonderful experience."
“The room fell quiet and we were all on tenterhooks, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement, before erupting into a deafening cheer. It was incredible to be able to experience that moment with them.”
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl will be competing against 'Flow', a Latvian cat film, Inside Out 2, the sequel to the psychological animated film from Disney, Memoirs of a Snail, starring Sarah Snook, known for her role in Succession, and A Wild Robot.
Cynthia Erivo, a British actress, is up for a special award for Best Actress for her role as Elphaba in the film version of the musical Wicked.
She is up against Mikey Madison, who stars in Anora, where a stripper falls for a Russian oligarch's son, and Hollywood actress Demi Moore, who features in the body horror film The Substance, for the award.
Spanish actress Karla Sofia Gascon, the first transgender actress to receive a nomination, is also in the running for Emilia Perez alongside Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres in Portuguese-language film I'm Still Here. This story tells the tale of a mother dealing with her husband's disappearance in authoritarian Brazil during the 1970s.

Ariana Grande has been nominated for best supporting actress for her portrayal of Glinda the good witch, who befriends Erivo's character, an emerald-skinned individual, at an early stage.
US pop sensation Ariana Grande confessed she cried for the entire day after learning of her nomination whilst appearing on chat show host Graham Norton's programme, set to be broadcast on the Friday evening.
She said: "It's been an absolutely surreal experience, nothing like I'd anticipated. It's completely overwhelming, and I've been crying all day. It's all been incredibly emotional, but I'm truly thankful for our Wicked family and for Cynthia beingbeing given this tribute. It's a truly special occasion."
The actress mentioned that she took classes with voice and acting coaches even before auditioning for the role, in order to give herself the greatest opportunity of winning the part.
I thought if I put in the effort, I'd have a fighting chance. I was intensely nervous about not getting the part, and I ended up crying a lot during the final audition.
Grande is up against Zoe Saldana, who starred in the Netflix thriller about a Mexican drug lord that underwent a gender change, and Isabella Rossellini, an Italian-born US actress who played a nun in Conclave, a drama about a papal election.
Also nominated in the category is Monica Barbaro for A Complete Unknown, along with Felicity Jones, who is nominated for the second time for her role in The Brutalist.
Among those in contention for the top prize are Wicked, Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, The Nickel Boys, Emilia, Pheroux's The Brutalist, Conclave, Anora, the sci-fi epic Dune: Part Two, I'm Still Here, and The Substance.
The nominees for the 97th Academy Awards were announced on a Thursday at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Los Angeles, after the initial announcement had been put back twice on account of a fire hazard in the local area.
